How to work from home like a pro

How to work from home like a pro

It’s been a week since I started working from home. Gawd - I hate it. I’m a face-to-face person that thrives on in-person collaborating. And to makes matters worse, my eyes are just not liking this constant exposure to monitors.

Here's your quintessential WFH list! Take care of yourself everyone!

  1. Plantronics USB-C Headphones over-ear*, I love the cushiony ear pads and the great clarity!

  2. Bluelight glasses to reduce eye fatigue — this has truly been the game-changer for me.

  3. If you need prescription, I recommend getting a pair from JINS. Prices start at $120 including the lens upgrade. $10 off if you use my referral link!

  4. If you don’t dig glasses, you can try a bluelight monitor block instead.

  5. Ultra-lubricating eye drops paired with lots of vision breaks/walks

  6. Top-rated Logitech wide-angle webcam for the web conferences. Comes with security cover. No installation required. If you have a smaller workspace, might want to go with this budget Logitech narrow-angle webcam instead. We have both!

  7. Mini under desk folding exercise bike to increase NEAT or…

  8. Seriously just get a Peloton bike already!! It’s so much more than a bike, to be honest! You’ll get $100 off accessories with my referral code GQFDGC.

  9. If you already have a spin bike, invest in a spin tray so you can dial into “receive-only” meetings and keep moving. It makes a difference!

  10. A truly ergonomic Herman Miller office chair. I don’t have one but this one reviews well if you happen to have shorter legs. I got lucky and managed to move my steelcase from work back home.

  11. And I think the sooner we realize we need to play the long-game here, the more we will design our workspaces optimizely. I made the decision to move out of the laundry/office into our guest room and setting up a proper sit/stand desk - Jarvis is a favorite. Or you can recycle and old desk top and screw into one of these sit stand bases.

  12. If you are going to stand, also invest in a anti-fatigue mat. Kangaroo is very highly rated, well-priced and does not off gas. Mine arrives on monday! one I got that is very highly-rated and still at a good price. My coworkers also swear by the Topo Mat due to the varying terrain for stretching and changing positions.

And if you are also work from home with kids, these are MUST-HAVES:

  1. Worklifekid’s very own “30 Days of Us” family bonding workbook

  2. Fun craft project! Have them make a Mailbox to drop off notes and day visit passes they can use once a day

  3. I don’t know about you but I find it super hard to focus when I can hear them screaming and yelling outside. I moved their old Snooz sound machine into my office!! Made a huge difference.

  4. To further block sound of them running down the hallway, I also got a weighted under door sound blocker which is currently en route here.

  5. Time-timer mini or Time Timer Large - the minutes are going to crawl by, let them hold themselves accountable.

  6. To keep everyone moving including yourself: Nintendo Switch + Just Dance 2020 (Younger Kids) + RingFit Adventure (for older kids). Delay it all you want but honestly just come to the dark side already.

  7. or the Kids Fire 7 with freetime

  8. Outdoor 14 FT trampoline - many many years of use. We’ll be getting one when the rain stops.

  9. Fisher Price Smart Cycle indoor kids bike - We have it and love it but man the price has skyrocketed in the past year. See if you can find a used one.

  10. Lifetime’s DOME CLIMBER is of great value. There are at least three in our neighborhood. They might sell out soon since they’re sold by Costco.

  11. And you know why I LOVE Keva Planks, because I have fun when we’re playing it too! (Age 5 and up)

One last thing I would say is to think about your WFH space in the long haul?

  • Can you create multiple “drop-ins” at your home to switch things up?

  • How do you create structure and space to separate work from life/kids?

  • What are small things you can do to increase the ergonomics?
